RSVP improves the lives of vulnerable populations in local communities by focusing on education and wellness and by supporting nonprofits through skill-based volunteer programs. Annually, 1,200 volunteers improve the lives of 11,000 community members. To continue to meet critical emerging needs in communities during the COVID-19 Pandemic, RSVP recruited an additional 500 volunteers to deliver food and medications, staff food pantries, assist at mass food distribution events, tutor and counseling virtually, record STEM career presentations, sew face masks and referring Medical Reserve Corps volunteers. Program delivery has been adapted to restrict direct contact between volunteers and the public. Funds raised from the Run to Smash the Virus Pandemic 5K will allow us to continue to recruit, screen, train and monitor volunteers to meet the growing challenges we are all facing.
